Scary Saturday – A Sign From Above or Beyond

I have named this series Scary Saturday because it is human nature to be afraid of things we do not understand. Paranormal events are most often scary, unnerving, and unsettling. But not every experience with spiritual energies is frightening.

Sometimes the signs from above or beyond are filled with love, hope, and understanding.

Sometimes the signs from above or beyond touch your heart and bring you peace in difficult times.

It would be wrong to try to explain away events such as these or to dismiss them with skepticism. Open your mind to open your heart.

Tonight I am honored that Yolanda has shared a deeply personal experience she had. She tells of a time when she really needed it most, the spirit world answered with a flower filled with love and peace.

Grab your tissues – I cried when I first read Yolanda’s story and I will probably cry again tonight as I am posting it.

Thank you so much Yolanda for sharing this experience with me. Please be sure to check out Yolanda’s Yochet blog to see her amazing life size crochet doll among other whimsical and fun projects!

A Flower for Ginger

Q: Did you experience this paranormal event or was this an
occurrence that someone else experienced?
Yolanda: I experienced it.
Q: What type of paranormal event have you experienced
(examples – spirits/ghosts, UFOs, monsters/weird creatures,
etc)?
Yolanda: I would call it a message from beyond.
Q: Have you experienced this phenomenon multiple times?
Yolanda: Just the once.
Q: Where did you experience your paranormal event?
Yolanda: In my backyard.
Q: Were you alone or did other people experience it too? If you
were alone, have other people reported the same event in that
location or during that time period?
Yolanda: I was alone when I saw it but other family members were home and
saw it.
Q: Please describe the details of your paranormal experience.
Yolanda: Two years ago, we had to put our beloved dog down. I agonized
about whether it was time to put her down. In some cases, it is so
obvious it’s the right time because a pet is so sick. It’s more of a
mercy to put them down but it wasn’t so clear cut in Ginger’s case.
She was still walking around and eating, albeit, a little slower. But
she kept getting sick. It was one thing after another. Instead of
getting better, it was getting worse.
I had had her for 14 years. I can’t describe how hard it was to be the
one who had to say it was her time to go. That I had to be the one
who essentially put her to death.
After weighing all the options, we had a vet come to our home. She
was terrified of going to the doctor and I didn’t want her final
moments to be in fear. We told family that I wasn’t inviting them to
come to say goodbye but was informing them in case they wanted
to. I wasn’t expecting all of them to show up but they did. We had a
full house and we all fed her anything she wanted.
It was bitter sweet but it was also beautiful. Ginger was surrounded
by everyone who loved her and she wasn’t alone when she passed.
Even though the vet who came to attend her said it was the right
thing to do, I still beat myself up as to whether I did the right thing.
The next morning, I went out to the backyard to get some air and the
first thing I saw was this.

Ginger's flower
When I saw the flower, it made me cry. It made me feel like I had
done the right thing after all. It seemed like a message from either
my mom or Ginger or both. How could a flower represent that?
Well, look at how lush and beautiful that looks. But…that plant had
never sprouted flowers before. A little back story here.
My mom had a green thumb. I have a black thumb when it comes to
plants. I can pretty much kill anything except weeds. That hasn’t
stopped me from trying to have a pretty garden, albeit with various
degrees of success. I finally had to come to the conclusion that gardening just isn’t my thang.
My mom had once attempted to beautify my back yard with these
lovely little flowers she bought for me. I looked at all those trays of
flowers and thought, “Oh no! death!” I politely told her that maybe
planting those at my house wouldn’t be a good idea since I couldn’t
be trusted with their care. She completely disregarded me and said
all I had to do was water them. I thought but didn’t say, “If you say
so….”
My mom happily started digging and planting and sending me off to
do various tasks, one of which was to water all those trays of
flowers. I quickly did her bidding and asked what else I could do.
When she was ready to start planting, she lifted one of the potted
plants and said, “Didn’t I ask you to water these? They are still dry
inside.” I replied that yes, I watered them. She saw me do it. She
shook her head and said in Spanish, “These poor little plants. They
were so excited to come to your home to be planted and now they’re
thinking, why did you bring us here to die?” I just crookedly smiled
and shrugged and she laughed. She said, “No wonder your plants die
if you water them like that.” She kept planting them and told me to
water them properly from now on. I’m sure nobody is surprised that
they didn’t make it.
She tried again by planting a bush near our fence that had beautiful
pink flowers. She had them in her home and insisted I just needed to
water it. I tried, but it never sprouted those beautiful flowers. The
leaves would grow but that was about it. Eventually, even the leaves
stopped showing up and the branches were developing this white
stuff that I knew couldn’t be good.
My mom passed away three years ago. I kept trying to keep the
plant alive and it sputtered along with leaves growing every now
and then. I think the infrequent rains and my sporadic waterings
kept it from completely dying. It was a sad pathetic plant that
refused to die.
The morning after we put Ginger down, that bush was blooming and
it had that one, beautiful, pink flower. It also had a few other buds
ready to sprout. I realize most people will think it was just a
coincidence but my family all knew that that plant never looked like
that. I hadn’t watered it in a long time. It had rained a few days
before but rain never did much but to keep it barely alive.
When I saw it, my first thought was that my Ginger and my mom
were sending me their love. Only my mom could make that plant
grow. It felt like a hug. Whether I was making more out of it than it
really was didn’t really matter. It made me feel better and I took
comfort in its appearance.
Everyone else was just as shocked as I was because they knew the I
was a plant killer and they had seen that sorry excuse for a bush
many times.
Q: Are there any other details or related information that
contributed to this event or that you believe are related to it?
Yolanda: After that initial burst of color, the plant went slowly back to it’s
sorry state and eventually dried out completely.

    1. I loved this story even though it was so sad. It always lifts my heart when I hear stories about special signs that you know are just meant for you and that tell you everything is going to be okay. Thank you so much for sharing Yolanda. 🙂

    1. I cried so hard when Yolanda first emailed it to me. I love that the flower bloomed just for Yolanda to let her know that everything would be fine and that Ginger and her mom were giving her a hug from heaven. 🙂

        1. When I showed the picture to my other family members, all I said was, “This is a picture from that plant in the backyard.” Every last one of them gasped. Even my most skeptical sister said, “I know that flower. Mom loved that flower! I never saw that flower in your yard.” Even she thought it was a weird coincidence. All of them were touched by the appearance of the flower. Maybe we just needed to believe but we all felt the energy from it and we accepted it. I felt it came from both, some of my siblings felt it was from mom, but we all felt it was a gift. 🙂

      1. I love perfect imperfections Yolanda – if you would like me to I will edit it otherwise I will leave it as is. I knew what you were saying and have had many “sausage fingers” comments that I’ve posted too. 😀
